Lotus Arts de Vivre Turns Cinnamon into Sculptural Collectible Design

by DDI Edit Team

Lotus Arts de Vivre has introduced a new collection built around an unlikely material: cinnamon. Individual cinnamon sticks, placed by hand in the hundreds, are assembled into sculptural bowls and plates, each paired with hand-sculpted sterling silver creatures, sitting somewhere between a functional home object and a collectible art piece. The collection holds three works, the Cinnamon Bowl with Silver Monkeys, the Sea Turtle Cinnamon Plate, and the Cinnamon Bowl with Dragon, each retaining the natural scent of cinnamon as part of its function, doubling as a fragrant bowl for fruit or flowers as much as a display piece.

The Cinnamon Bowl with Silver Monkeys is built from close to 1,000 individual cinnamon sticks, with sterling silver monkeys set along its rim, resting on an ocean-blue hand-blown glass base by Japanese glass artist Seiki Torige. More than four artisans in Bali spent over a month assembling the cinnamon structure alone, followed by another four weeks of work from six designers and silversmiths shaping and positioning the silver figures.

The Cinnamon Bowl with Dragon uses between 400 and 500 cinnamon sticks, wrapped by a sterling silver dragon with turquoise eyes coiled around the vessel. In East Asian tradition, the brand notes, the dragon carries associations with strength, wisdom, prosperity, and protection, regarded as a guardian of fortune and a ruler of the elements.

The Sea Turtle Cinnamon Plate follows the same range of 400 to 500 cinnamon sticks, shaped into a serving piece with a sterling silver head and flippers, its eyes set in Tiger’s eye gemstone. The sea turtle is positioned by the brand as a symbol of longevity, balance, and resilience, and it took roughly three months of handwork by artisans across Bali and Thailand to complete.

Across all three pieces, the brand describes its approach as one of turning unconventional natural materials into collectible design, letting scent, symbolism, and handwork sit together in a single object.

The Cinnamon Collection is available through Lotus Arts de Vivre’s Mumbai boutique at Shop No. 3, Suleman Chambers, Battery Street, Colaba, Mumbai 400001, reachable at 9820991007, and at the Delhi boutique adjoining DDA Park on R.K.
