Design Diary International actively seeks the work it covers, but we also welcome submissions from architects, interior designers, product designers, studios, brands, photographers, and writers whose work and thinking are relevant to our editorial focus. If you believe your work belongs in these pages, we want to hear from you. Please read the following carefully before reaching out.
What we are looking for
We are looking for completed work that has something to say. Even small, inexpensive projects by lesser-known practices are considered. It needs to be interesting, resolved, and worth the serious attention of our readership, which includes architects, interior designers, product designers, brand founders, and collectors across 75 countries. We prioritize work not extensively covered in international design press, offering equal editorial attention to emerging studios with one project and established practices with decades of experience.
Furthermore, We are looking for designers, architects, and brand founders who have something genuinely honest to say about their practice, their process, and the decisions that shaped their work. Our interviews are not profiles. They are direct conversations, and the people who come out of them looking most interesting are the ones who answered the difficult questions directly.
What we do not cover
We do not cover projects that exist only as renders, concepts, or proposals. We do not cover financial results, leadership appointments, or corporate announcements. We do not publish advertorial content or material written by the submitting party to be presented as independent editorial. We cover only work that has been photographed to a standard allowing proper editorial treatment, meaning professional photography at a resolution suitable for publication.
Project submissions
Send a brief description of the project that includes its location, typology, size, year of completion, and the name of the architect or designer. Include a selection of high-resolution photographs, a minimum of ten images, along with the full photography and associated brand credit. A press release or project description is helpful but not required. We will assess the submission’s architectural and editorial merit and contact you if we decide to proceed. If you have not heard from us within six weeks, please consider the submission withdrawn.
Interview proposals
If you would like to put forward a designer, architect, or brand founder for an interview, send a brief introduction explaining who they are, what makes their practice worth the attention of our readership right now, and what they are currently working on. Include links to their work and any relevant press coverage. We are particularly interested in individuals whose work has depth and whose thinking about their discipline goes beyond what is already publicly available. A willingness to answer direct questions honestly is more valuable to us than a high-profile name.
Writing pitches
We accept pitches for essays, opinion pieces, and long-form features on architecture, design, craft, material culture, and the broader ideas that shape the built environment. Send a pitch of no more than 300 words describing the piece, its central argument, and why it is relevant to our readership. Include links to at least three previously published pieces that demonstrate your ability to write at the level this publication requires. We do not accept unsolicited finished pieces. We do not publish content that has appeared in any form elsewhere. If your pitch is selected, we will commission the piece and discuss the brief in detail before you begin writing.
Photography
We work with photographers whose practice is focused on architecture, interiors, and the built environment. If you would like to be considered for editorial commissions or for the use of existing work in our pages, send a portfolio link, a brief description of your practice, the regions and typologies you specialize in, and your preferred contact details. We will be in touch if your work is relevant to an upcoming editorial need.
Brand and product submissions
If you represent a brand or studio whose products or collections are relevant to our coverage of furniture, lighting, objects, materials, or interiors, send a brief description of what you are putting forward and why it is relevant to our readership, along with high-resolution images and any supporting information. We cover brands and products on editorial merit alone and do not guarantee coverage in exchange for any commercial arrangement.
Exclusivity
We give priority consideration to submissions where we are being offered exclusive coverage, meaning the work has not been published by any other editorial outlet. If you are offering exclusivity, please state the details clearly in your submission. Exclusivity does not guarantee coverage, but it does mean your submission will receive additional consideration.
Response times
We aim to respond to all submissions within four weeks. During busy production periods the process may take longer. If you have not heard from us within six weeks, you may assume we have declined the submission. We provide no detailed feedback on submissions we reject.
